One of the most fascinating questions at the heart of second/additional language (L2) learning and teaching is why there is such variability when it comes to L2 learning outcomes, especially compared to how native language(s) are learned to such a proficient degree. In this workshop, we will explore how learner individual differences (such as motivation, ideal self, age of L2 onset, among others) play a role in L2 learning. Attendees will be guided through options for measuring the IDs of most relevance for classroom contexts, take stock of their teaching practices and IDs as language teachers, and ensure their current practices maximize learning opportunities for all.
