SUMMARY:Stuart Selber “Institutions, Literacies, Technologies”
DESCRIPTION:\nMy project is a rhetorical study of the ways in which acad
emic computing units mediate the teaching and learning of writing and co
mmunication in American higher education. I conceptualize how colleges a
nd universities organize and manage the complex universe of information
technologies (IT) and provide heuristic strategies—historical\, spatial\
, and textual—that teachers and researchers can use to involve themselve
s in the constitution of this universe. Although academic computing unit
s have a rich tradition of running faculty engagement programs\, my argu
ment is that humanities teachers and researchers need to contribute more
directly and positively to the technological agendas of colleges and un
iversities\, developing IT engagement programs that are both effective a
nd professionally responsible.\n\nFor more details: https://events.la.ps
