Dr. Calabretta-Sajder is an Assistant Professor of Italian and teaches courses in Italian, Film, and Gender Studies. He was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Calabria in Italy (2017) and is the author of: Divergenze in Celluloide: Colore, migrazione e identità sessuale nei film gay di Ferzan Özpetek (2016) and Pasolini’s Lasting Impressions: Death, Eros and Literary Enterprise in the Opus of Pier Paolo Pasolini (2017).
The presentation will examine one of Italy’s most noteworthy gay directors, Ferzan Özpetek, and his major queer films. The study will focus particularly on the director’s use of color, migration, foodways, and the concept of the gaze which will include spectatorship. The lecture will be in English.
