Reflections on Democracy in America: The View from the Humanities—A Conversation with Cynthia Young

The history of struggles for representation and recognition in America is the subject of the latest HumIn Focus episode: Who Counts: The Complexities of Democracy in America. Given this history, coupled with the dramatic presidential election we just witnessed, the Humanities Institute invites you to join us as Director John Christman talks with Dr. Cynthia Young, head of the Department of African American Studies at Penn State, about the meaning of democracy today.

We encourage you to watch Episode 4 of HumIn Focus beforehand, as a backdrop to the conversation. Dr. Christman and Dr. Young will discuss the themes of the documentary, as well as some that were left out.

Moderated by Zinhle ka'Nobuhlaluse, Doctoral Candidate in Philosophy and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Digital Content/Social Media Manager for the Humanities Institute

Questions will be taken from the audience during the webinar. Register in advance here.
