“Corrective Feedback in Second Language Acquisition”
Hosted by Lieselotte Sippel

In this talk, I will discuss the role of corrective feedback (CF) in second language acquisition, with a focus on the L2 (second language) German classroom. The talk will address oral and written CF on a variety of linguistic targets including grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. I will consider feedback provided by teachers and peers in traditional classroom settings, as well as feedback provided by virtual exchange partners outside of the classroom during telecollaborative projects. During these projects, L2learners interact with their virtual exchange partners, that is, native speakers or advanced L2 speakers of the language they are studying, either in written form (e.g., via email) or in oral form (e.g., on Zoom). In addition to examining the effects of CF on language acquisition, my talk will address learners’ feedback behaviors when interacting with virtual exchange partners, their attitudes toward CF in general, and the relationship between attitudes and learning outcomes.
