“1 in 100: Latino Immigrants’ Unlikely Climb to the Top of the Labor Market”
Out of every 100 Latino/a/x immigrants, only 1 works in the elite labor force—as doctors, engineers, or financial analysts. Why is the largest immigrant group in the U.S. the least represented in jobs most Americans deem a ‘success’? Based on 100 interviews which follow Latino immigrants across their journeys from school to work, this book argues that every institution shepherding students to the workplace become interconnected institutions of marginalization for Latino immigrants. To rectify that inequality, laws, schools, and workplaces need systemic, cross-institutional change.
