Bio:
Peter Alegi is professor of history at Michigan State University where he has received several teaching awards for his courses on South Africa, modern Africa, and global soccer. He is the author and editor of several books, including Laduma! Soccer, Politics & Society in South Africa, African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World’s Game, and Africa’s World Cup. His new book, Cool Under Pressure: Bonga-Bonga’s Global African Football Life, co-authored with Gerard Akindes, will be published by Ohio University Press in fall 2026. Alegi is currently writing a book on how scholarly podcasting is changing the field of African studies, a project inspired by his experience as host of the Africa Past and Present podcast—the longest-running African studies podcast in the world. Alegi is a founding member of Sports Africa, a coordinate organization of the U.S. African Studies Association, and convenes the online Football Scholars Forum. Finally, he is the editor of MSU Press’s African History and Culture book series and serves on the advisory boards of the International Journal of African Historical Studies and African Studies.
