- Transatlantic Exchanges from “Modernity” to Modernism
with Tania Martuscelli (University of Colorado, Boulder)
History - or the “North Atlantic abstract universal fictions”, as Mignolo and Walsh (2018) put it -, teaches us to understand modernity in Latin America as the inaugural European encounter that led to colonization. Modernism, however, opens the door to creativity and internationalization, as in the case of Brazil and Portugal. This presentation will discuss the notion of colonization by re-visiting the “history” of cultural exchange between these two countries, through bi-lateral editorial projects.
