Based on the memoir by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, the film captures the tensions and unease of daily life during the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964–1985). In the wake of politician Rubens Paiva’s disappearance, his wife Eunice and the rest of their family persevere to ensure that his life and ideals are not forgotten. Adapted by acclaimed director Walter Salles, I’m Still Here has been a critical and commercial success, winning the the 2025 Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and breaking box office records in Brazil.
