Made In Hong Kong: Xi Xi Memorial Roundtable

After passing away in December 2022, Hong Kong novelist and poet 西西 Xi Xi (Saisai in Cantonese, pen name of Ellen Cheung Yin 張彥) left us an enormous trove of literary and artistic treasures that remains with us in Hong Kong, the Sinophone and world literature at large. This roundtable discussion brings scholars, translators, literary editors and artists based in Hong Kong and the United States together to discuss the tremendous legacy of a prolific and widely beloved writer made in Hong Kong, as well as the contemporary significance of teaching, researching, translating, and promoting Xi Xi’s works to a wide variety of audience. In loving memory for Xi Xi, a cultural creator proficient in multiple genres and medias who has been a staple in Hong Kong literature and culture for decades, our roundtable hopes to provide resources for students and researchers interested in Hong Kong literature and its scholarship and teachers wishing to introduce Xi Xi to a broader student body who may be interested in ecocriticism, science fiction, Sinophone literature and culture, etc.
