SUMMARY:Workshop: Active Learning with Confidence (and without the Burnout)
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Fisher Family\, Robert and Marie Secor\, and the John
Moore Teaching Mentorship in English Present Christina Katopodis.\n\nWe
know from the learning sciences that active learning is the best way to
learn. Empowering students to be active learners can introduce uncertain
ty in a classroom that looks and sounds different from a more traditiona
l one. In this workshop\, we brainstorm our priorities so we can be stur
dy leaders throughout the learning process. Participants come away with
a student self-evaluation structure that works in any classroom.\n\nChri
stina Katopodis\, Ph.D.\, is a senior postdoctoral research associate at
the City University of New York’s Humanities Alliance\, pursuing resear
ch on the indispensable role of a humanities education in a just society
. She is the former associate director of Transformative Learning in the
Humanities and founder of Engaged &amp\; Ready\, a project that empower
s faculty with antiracist active learning tools to democratize their cla
ssrooms. She is the winner of the 2019 Diana Colbert Innovative Teaching
Prize and the 2018 Dewey Digital Teaching Award. She has authored or co
-authored articles published in Chronicle of Higher Ed\, English Languag
	e Notes\, ESQ\, Hybrid Pedagogy\, Inside Higher Ed\, ISLE\, MLA’s Profes
sion\, Times Higher Ed\, and Zeal: A Journal for the Liberal Arts. With
Cathy N. Davidson\, Katopodis is author of The New College Classroom (Ha
rvard University Press 2022)\, winner of the AAC&amp\;U 2023 Frederic W.
Ness Book Award.\n\nFor more details: https://events.la.psu.edu/event/w
