“What’s in a Name?”

Our names are an immeasurably important part of our identity, carrying deep cultural, familial, and historical connections. They also provide a sense of who we are and our place in the world.

In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we invite you to join panelists from Procter & Gamble and Penn State for an online panel discussion on the importance of respecting the value and pronunciation of names of AAPI origin.

Panelists from Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Penn State plan to discuss the insights that led to the creation of a film that P&G developed in 2022 for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month called The Name. This film was led by an all-AAPI team from P&G so it could authentically capture the honest realities of the AAPI experience today through an empathetic lens.

Aimed to spark conversations about an issue very prevalent in many AAPI communities, find out the importance of a name and how meaningful gestures and correct pronunciation can create a greater sense of belonging for us all.
