SUMMARY:Virtual Book Club: Why We\'re Polarized
DESCRIPTION:\nDuring the month of June\, the McCourtney Institute for De
mocracy&#39\;s virtual book club will be reading&nbsp\;Why We&#39\;re Po
larized\,&nbsp\;a new book by Vox&#39\;s Ezra Klein. Anyone is welcome t
o join us for discussion via Zoom.&nbsp\;\n\nIn the book\, Ezra Klein re
veals the structural and psychological forces behind America&#39\;s desc
ent into division and dysfunction. Neither a polemic nor a lament\, this
book offers a clear framework for understanding everything from Trump&#
39\;s rise to the Democratic Party&#39\;s leftward shift to the politici
zation of everyday culture.&nbsp\;\n\nKlein shows how and why American p
olitics polarized around identity in the twentieth century\, and what th
at polarization did to the way we see the world and one another. And he
traces the feedback loops between polarized political identities and pol
arized political institutions that are driving our system toward crisis.
\n\nZoom information will be sent to registrants before the event.\n\nFo
