SUMMARY:“Ukrainian Witchcraft: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”
DESCRIPTION:\nNatalie Kononenko was professor and Kule chair in Ukrainia
	n Ethnography at the University of Alberta. She has conducted ethnograph
	ic fieldwork in Canada\, Ukraine\, Kazakhstan\, and Turkey and was part 
	of the Sanctuary Project\, the most thorough documentation of Ukrainian 
	sacralculture in Canada. Her book Ukrainian Ritual on the Prairies: Grow
	ing a Ukrainian-Canadian Identity published by McGill/Queens University 
	Press in 2023 won the Canadian Association of Slavists Best Book Prize a
	nd the Canadian Historical Association Clio Award. Kononenko’s other pub
	lications include Ukrainian Minstrels: And the Blind Shall Sing (Routled
	ge 1997)\, Slavic Folklore: A Handbook (Greenwood 2007)\, and Ukrainian 
	Epic and Historical Song: Folklore in Context (University of Toronto Pre
	ss 2019). She has also produced book chapters and numerous articles and 
	served as editor of Folklorica. Currently\, Kononenko serves on the Folk
	lore Commission of the International Congress of Slavists and studies th
