ynne Brown-McCourtney Early Career Professor in the McCourtney Institute
for Democracy and Assistant Professor of African American Studies and C

ic engagement and African American politics and social life\, with a par
ticular emphasis on black athletes and the history of sports in the Unit
ed States. Broadly stated\, his teaching and research considers the exte
nt to which sport offers productive contributions to struggles for socia
