The Shapes of Love: From Plato to the Present—Cultivation or Consumption?
Part of Love Liberal Arts Week

Celebrate Love Liberal Arts Week with a Love and Sex Panel featuring a 30-minute presentation by Tyrique Mack-Georges, a philosophy doctoral student, followed by a student-led panel and audience Q&A. The conversation will explore themes of relationships, identity, and values. Student panelists include Rand Alkhunaizi, Ella Bartnik, Molly Hatfield, Panya Khattar, Max Settembre, Romana Moroz, and Nicolette Morris.

Love as Colossus of Rhodes: For Plato, love stands between the mortal and the eternal, and in doing so takes many forms that carry the potential for self-cultivation. Family, friends, and lovers can grow together, challenging one another to become better versions of themselves: to “possess the good forever.” This panel asks whether a culture of short-term relationships and casual encounters has obscured this deeper, formative dimension of love.

A reception will follow the panel in Old Botany Building from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
