“The Politics of the Roman Slave Revolts”
A Talk with Dominic Machado

The talk will examine how the slave revolts of the late second and early first century BCE shaped different aspects of the politics of the Late Republic. As such, it issues a challenge to the dominant view that Roman politics operated from the top-down and examines the strategies that the elite used to consolidate power.
