SUMMARY:Teresa Girolamo (University of Kansas) - Perspectives on Language-based
	Science from Community-based Autism Research
DESCRIPTION:Perspectives on Language-based Science from Community-based
	Autism Research\nTeresa Girolamo\, M.S.\, is a Ph.D. candidate in child
	language at the University of Kansas. Her talk “Perspectives on language
	-based science from community-based autism research” will discuss a comm
	unity-based approach to recruit and retain minority young adolescents an
	d young adults on the autism spectrum in language research. This communi
	ty-based approach shifted the burden of participation in research from p
	articipants to the researcher and initiated contact with potential parti
	cipants themselves\, versus their caregivers. Overall\, this approach wa
	s effective yet resource-intensive. Implications for language science\,
	limitations\, and future directions will be discussed.&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;
