Speak UP is an advanced English speaki ng group designed for international undergraduate students, graduat e students, postdocs, and fellows. Speak UP aims to pr ovide a supportive space in which to discuss and practice &lsquo ;real-life’ academic communication at Penn State.&nb sp;
Each week, the Speak UP group focuses on a p articular situation/setting in university life w here language plays a central role. Sessions are gu ided by experienced EPPIC instructors who offer examples of&nb sp;what people ‘do’ with language in e ach setting, and provide commonly used phrases and communication strategies for each. Participants pr actice with new knowledge and build social relationships with international and American peers through group discussion, role-plays, and games.
