SUMMARY:Symposium on the Ethics of Immigration Enforcement
DESCRIPTION:A Conversation with Bridget Cambria\, Co-Founder of Aldea&md
ash\;The People&rsquo\;s Justice Center and an Immigration Attorney&nbsp
\;\n\nModerated by Professor Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia\, Penn State Associ
ate Dean for Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion\n\nMany aspects of immig
ration law and its enforcement\, in the United States and elsewhere\, fa
ll short of what justice demands. Some aspects of immigration enforcemen
t&mdash\;like family separation&mdash\;are especially egregious and the
easiest to criticize. But it is far more challenging to formulate a cohe
rent vision of what immigration policy&nbsp\;should be&nbsp\;beyond just
what it should&nbsp\;not be. Equally challenging is determining the eth
ical responsibilities of policymakers and law enforcement officials who
must act under nonideal conditions. Moreover\, histories of colonialism\
, racial discrimination\, and violence and their lasting legacies compli
cate the requirements of justice for present-day immigration policy.\n\n
The Symposium on the Ethics of Immigration Enforcement&mdash\;which will
	 take place Thursday\, March 17 and Friday\, March 18\, 2022\, at Penn S
tate University Park&mdash\;will explore these and other issues.&nbsp\;T
his interdisciplinary event aims to bring together researchers at Penn S
tate in the humanities\, law\, and social sciences engaged in research a
t the intersection of immigration and policing.\n\nSponsors for the even
t are the Rock Ethics Institute\, Penn State Law Center for Immigrants&r
	squo\; Rights Clinic\, Latina/o Studies program\, Department of&nbsp\;Ph
ilosophy\, and Schreyer Honors College.\n\nFor more details: https://eve
