SUMMARY:Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) Program Inf
	ormation Session
DESCRIPTION:\nAre you interested in language? In languages in a foreign 
	setting? In what is involved in speaking or learning more than one langu
	age?\n\nThe Center for Language Science at Penn State has received a mul
	ti-year grant from the National Science Foundation as part of the&nbsp\;
	Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) program. Th
	e project is titled &ldquo\;Translating cognitive and brain science in t
	he laboratory and field to language learning environments\,&rdquo\; and 
	is designed to study the way one or more languages are learned and used 
	across the lifespan. The scope is very broad\, and includes the conseque
	nces of being or becoming bilingual\, the use of minority languages and 
	dialects\, and the incorporation of research on language into the educat
	ional curriculum.\n\nUndergraduate students who participate in the PIRE 
	program will have the opportunity to work closely with Penn State resear
	ch faculty who study language from a variety of perspectives. They will 
	also spend a summer abroad at one of our partner institutions (in Europe
	\, Latin America\, and Asia)\, participating in collaborative projects\,
	 both in an academic setting and through educational and community outre
	ach efforts. This is an excellent opportunity to engage in hands-on rese
	arch in an exciting field with significant social implications.\n\nExpen
	ses to travel abroad during the summer to conduct research (e.g.\, summe
	r tuition\, airfare\, lodging\, meals\, incidentals) will be covered by
