“Personhood and the Subliminal Mind: Yogacara Buddhism versus Freud,” Tao Jiang, Rutgers University: Talk at the Comparative Literature Luncheon

Jiang is associate professor of Buddhism and Chinese Philosophy, and chair of the Rutgers University Department of Religion. He holds a bachelor of arts and and master of arts in English from the Foreign Affairs University in Beijing, and a doctoral degree in religion from Temple University. Jiang’s key area of research is comparative philosophy, and is anchored by two recent books – Contexts and Dialogues: Yogacara Buddhism and Modern Psychology on the Subliminal  Mind (University of Hawaii Press 2006) and China’s Freudian Slip: The Reception and Rendition of Freud in China (Routledge 2012). His articles have been published in journals such as DaoPhilosophy East and West, Journal of Continental Philosophy, and Journal of Chinese Philosophy.
