This is the fourth session of 2024 C ALPER Professional Development Webinar Series: Advances in World Languag e Pedagogy.

Abstract:

Language corpora can be success fully used for creating pedagogical materials in various contexts and la nguages. However, engaging with texts from native-speaker corpora can be daunting for language learners. Learner corpora, corpora built from lea rner texts, can help fill the gap by providing level-appropriate materia ls. Shelley Staples is associate professor of English and second language acquisition and teaching at the University of Arizona. Her rese arch focuses on the use of corpus-based discourse analysis to investigat e language use across spoken and written contexts. Her research aims to inform language teaching and assessment, particularly in the areas of En glish for Academic and Specific Purposes (EAP/ESP.  Valentina Vinokurova is a doctoral candidate in second language acqu isition and teaching at the University of Arizona. She specializes in Ru ssian language teaching.
