Lunch and Learn: Fellowships in State Legislature

The PA House Fellowship Program was created in 1982 by the BMC Leadership of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as an opportunity for students to be provided with work experience, education, and insight into the people, issues, and politics of the legislative process. Based in Pennsylvania's magnificent State Capitol in Harrisburg, the 13-week program places undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate students, and law school in the offices of Committee Chairmen or House Leaders.

Presenters:

Kelly Palmer, BMC Programs Coordinator

Prior to coming to work at the PA House of Representatives, Kelly spent 10 years in management and planning of human service and specialty court diversion programs in a local county government. Programs ranged from individualized services to specialized diversion programs within the courts. Additionally, she has 2 years’ experience in grassroots organizing, direct and indirect state and federal lobbying on an extensive variety of health and healthcare issues for a non-partisan patient advocacy group. In this role, Kelly spent a great deal of time working with both House and Senate chambers in both Harrisburg, PA and Washington, DC. Kelly graduated from Penn State University, University Park with her Bachelor’s in Psychology and attended Temple University-Harrisburg for her Master’s in Public Health. In her current role as the BMC Programs Coordinator, she loves having the opportunity to create new experiences with diverse groups of students each semester. It’s always exciting to work within the student’s area of interest and get to be such a large part of the journey into their long term goals.

Keisha Wright, Legislative Projects Coordinator

Keisha Wright started as a Paralegal with the PA House of Representatives in 2004 and became involved with the Fellowship Program in 2017. She is currently a Legislative Projects Coordinator and provides assistance to the Fellows with their projects and any general questions regarding the Fellowship Program.
