SUMMARY:African Studies Brown Bag Lecture: Wanjiru Kareithi
DESCRIPTION:\nWanjiru Kareithi is a postdoctoral scholar in the Office o
	f the Associate Dean of Access and Equity in the College of Arts and Arc
	hitecture at Penn State. Her work focuses on equity and inclusive leader
	ship\, with a strong academic emphasis on women’s rights in civil\, poli
	tical\, economic\, and socio-cultural contexts. Affiliated with the Depa
	rtment of Women's\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and the Africa
	n Studies program at Penn State\, her research and teaching explore grou
	p rights and gender-based legal reform\, advocating for marginalized com
	munities. As a human rights advocate from Nairobi\, Kenya\, Kareithi has
	 more than twelve years of experience working with both governmental and
	 non-governmental organizations across sub-Saharan Africa and globally. 
	Her advocacy has centered on promoting equality\, non-discrimination\, a
	nd gender-sensitive human rights initiatives at regional and internation
	al levels. In addition to her extensive advocacy and research\, Kareithi
	 has taught and mentored students in human rights law and gender studies
	 across Africa and beyond. She holds a doctor of laws degree (LLD) from 
	the University of Pretoria\, a master of laws degree (LLM) from the Univ
	ersity of Bristol\, and a bachelor of laws degree (LLB) from Kenya. She
