Jie Zhang and Sophia Qin will present “OPI-DA: A Dynamic Assessment Approach to Diagnosing Learner Oral Proficiency.“

Jie Zhang is Associate Professor of Chinese Pedagogy and Applied Linguistics in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma, USA. She received her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the Pennsylvania State University. Her research interests are second language acquisition, foreign language pedagogy, and Chinese as a second language. She has published on the Modern Language Journal, Language Testing, Language Teaching Research, Chinese as a Second Language, Teaching Chinese in the World, among others. She is co-editor of the volume Chinese language education in the United States (Springer). She serves as the Executive Director of The Chinese Language Teachers Association, USA (CLTA-USA).

Tianyu (Sophie) Qin, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Academic Director of the Chinese Flagship Program at the University of North Georgia. Her research focuses on using dynamic assessment to examine the development of second language learners' intercultural competence and oral proficiency. She approaches her work from the perspective of sociocultural psychology, which views pedagogy as foundational to research.
