SUMMARY:\"Jesus: Good Jew or Bad Jew?\"
DESCRIPTION:\nThis talk explores Jesus’s Jewishness\, focusing specifica
lly on his observance of Jewish law and practice. We begin by looking at
how the Gospels\, our only direct sources for the historical Jesus\, po
rtray Jesus as a Jew. Second\, we will glance at some of the ways in whi
ch Jesus’ Jewishness has been construed in modern scholarship—for better
or for worse. We will then move to a more detailed look at two ancient
portraits of Jesus: the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of John. Finall
y\, we will reflect on the implications of Jesus’s Jewishness for histor
	y\, scholarship\, and Jewish-Christian relations in our own day.\n\nFor
