In this book talk, Professor Yoav Di-Capua revisits the intellectual drama around Arab decolonization, its infatuation with existentialism, and its relationship with Jean Paul Sartre. At the heart of the troubled connection, stood the problem of Palestine and the Arab demand from Sartre to articulate universal ethics of liberation that would apply equally to Algeria and Vietnam, as well as to Palestine. His failure to deliver and the devastating 1967 war that quickly followed brought to an end a generational drive toward full decolonization and global citizenship.
