Please join us as journalist Seth Berkman, born in Seoul and raised in New Jersey, discusses his new book. Based on his experiences while on assignment for The New York Times at the 2018 Winter Olympics, he chronicles the debut of a Korean national hockey team that drew players from both sides of the 38th parallel—as well as from other parts of the globe. As his publisher describes it, A Team of Their Own documents the “inspiring, unlikely story of the American, Canadian, South Korean and even North Korean women who joined together to form Korea’s first Olympic ice hockey team.”
Opening remarks and introductions by Jeff Kampersal, Penn State women’s hockey head coach, and Jessamyn R. Abel, assistant professor of Asian Studies.
This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Asian Studies, the College of the Liberal Arts, and the Center for the Study of Sports in Society.
