SUMMARY:HI Faculty Invites: “A Spaniard in America and Some Varieties of Natural
	ism” with Ramón del Castillo
DESCRIPTION:\nRam&oacute\;n del Castillo\, Professor at UNED (Universida
	d Nacional de Educaci&oacute\;n a Distancia\, Spain)\n\nThis event will
be focused on&nbsp\;Jard&iacute\;n de los delirios&nbsp\;(2019) which ti
tle evokes El Bosco&rsquo\;s&nbsp\;Garden of Delights\,&nbsp\;substituti
	ng&nbsp\;delirium&nbsp\;for&nbsp\;delight\, and whose subtitle&nbsp\; (l
as ilusiones del naturalism) also deliberately plays with the ambiguity
of the Spanish word &ldquo\;ilusi&oacute\;n&rdquo\; which means both &qu
ot\;illusion&quot\; and &quot\;delusion.&quot\; The objective of my book
was to dismantle some preconceptions about naturalistic landscape archi
tecture that has become fashionable in recent years\, but I also analyze
	d ideas as&nbsp\;rewilding&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;re-naturalization&nbsp\;y and
its connections with different conceptions of ecology. I will also expl
ain why I adhered to the ideas of some geographers and philosophers who
polemically claimed that &ldquo\;Nature does not exist&rdquo\; such as S
lavoj Žižek or Erik Swyngedouw\, who argues: &ldquo\;There is no such th
ing as a singular Nature around which an environmentally and socially ju
st politics can be constructed and performed. Rather\, there are a multi
tude of natures and a multitude of existing\, possible or practical soci
	o-natural relations&rdquo\; [&hellip\;]&nbsp\; &ldquo\;The focus on a si
	ngular Nature that requires &lsquo\;sustaining&rsquo\; or\, at least\, &
	lsquo\;managing&rsquo\;\, is sustained by a particular &lsquo\;quilting&
rsquo\; of Nature that forecloses asking political questions about immed
iately and really possible alternative socio-natural arrangements.&rdquo
