Field Work and Oral Interviews – A Workshop on Methods

Presenter: Dr. Jamie Andreson

Dr. Jamie Andreson is one of this year's postdoctoral fellows at the Africana Research Center. This 90-minute, informal workshop is an opportunity to speak with her about specific methods, challenges, and approaches to oral interviews and other forms of on-site work.

Dr. Andreson's work is anthropological and historical in nature and examines, in particular, how Brazilian Candomblé leaders produce the past within the context of an African diasporic religion of the Americas. The research materials include written, visual, oral, and material sources with a focus on Black women's religious leadership in Salvador to examine how Candomblé leaders have used various strategies to build pasts and futures in relation to African heritage and Afro-Brazilian ancestry.
