Exploring Holocaust Survivor Testimony: Alternatives to Trauma Theory

How might we analyze testimony that defies the expectations in Literary Trauma Studies: testimony that provides evidence of coping and recovery, rather than of trauma that can never be healed? In this talk I address these questions by analyzing testimony by young Czech Jews who were active in the cultural life of the Theresienstadt Ghetto using different methodological lenses—clinical trauma studies, reminiscence studies, and the history of emotions.
