Please join the School of Public Policy and the Rock Ethics Institute for a panel discussion inspired by the book Democracy Administered: How Public Administration Shapes Representative Government (Cambridge University Press, 2021) on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. EDT in Foster Auditorium in Paterno Library.

In Democracy Administered, Anthony Bertelli, Sherwin-Whitmore Professor of Liberal Arts and professor of public policy and political science explains the role public administration plays in representative democracies and how democratic values factor into the structures and processes of public policymaking.

The panel will use the book as a starting point to explore how democracy and representative government carry on within the complexities of the modern administrative state.

Co-sponsored by the Penn State University Libraries, the forum will be moderated by Ben Jones, assistant director of the Rock Ethics Institute.

Joining Bertelli and Jones on the panel will be John Christman, director of the Penn State Humanities Institute and professor of philosophy, political science, and women’s studies; Lee Ann Banaszak, head of the Penn State Department of Political Science and professor of political science, and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies; and Sean Gailmard, professor of political science at the University of California Berkeley.
