SUMMARY:Seventeenth Annual De Jong Lecture in Social Demography
DESCRIPTION:\n&ldquo\;Generational Overlap: Changing Demography and Shar
	ed Lifetimes&rdquo\;&nbsp\;will be presented by Dr.&nbsp\;Marcy Carlson\
	, Professor of Sociology\, University of Wisconsin&ndash\;Madison.&nbsp\
;\n\nDr. Carlson will&nbsp\;consider how changing demographic patterns (
i.e.\, declining/delayed fertility and longer life expectancies) shape t
he prevalence of generational overlap\, especially for children and gran
dparents. Generational overlap in the form of shared lifetimes represent
s a fundamental condition guiding whether and how kin relationships acro
ss generations may develop and how resources may be shared&mdash\;with n
otable variation by socioeconomic status\, race/ethnicity\, and family c
omplexity.&nbsp\;\n\nGraduate Students and Postdocs&nbsp\;are invited to
attend a lunch meeting with the De Jong Lecture presenters in 605 Oswal
d Tower at 12:45 p.m. on Friday\, September 16. Space is limited to sixt
een students. Email Carolyn Scott at&nbsp\;css7@psu.edu&nbsp\;to sign up
.\n\nAdvance&nbsp\;registration&nbsp\;is required to attend in person or
	 virtually.&nbsp\;\n\nFor more details: https://events.la.psu.edu/event/
