“Literary Studies, Data Science, and the Present-Future of Prejudice”

Lecture sponsored by the Digital Culture and Media Initiative, Department of English

This talk suggests how literary studies might be viably described as a science of prejudice-correction, and how such a description might challenge the consensus in the humanities portion of the data sciences that it can discover discrimination and bias, identifying patterns scientifically and at scale. This discrepancy in turn might clarify the relationship between data and justice in globalized modern liberal societies.
