She previously completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Bioethics at the Case Western Reserve University Sc hool of Medicine\, and she received a doctorate in comparative literatur e from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the funct ion of metaphor and other literary devices in narrative accounts of psyc hedelic experiences\, in addition to studying bioethical approaches to p sychedelic medicine. They were awarded Best Humanities Publication in Ps ychedelic Studies from Breaking Convention in 2016 and received the Arti cle Prize for Best Publication in Romanticism Studies from European Roma ntic Review in 2020.
