The purpose of this event is to highlight the experiences of the Jewish-Sephardic diaspora in Mexico through a poetry reading and lecture on Jewish literature in Mexico. The event will feature the work of Myriam Moscona (author and poet) and Jacobo Sefamí (author and scholar). Our guest speakers will critically explore narratives that Sephardic Jewish societies developed in their diasporic experiences. This event will help our audience gain an understanding of the transcultural identity of Judaism in Mexico and will underscore the importance of Ladino language in preserving the Jewish cultural heritage. This event will highlight the cultural and artistic practices that Mexican Jewish groups have developed in modern and contemporary times. It will be of interest to faculty, students, and the broader community, and will address topics of current relevance such as the history and practices of Judaism, migratory processes, languages in extinction, Judaism and gender, representations of Jewish minorities in Mexico, different approaches in Mexican poetry, among other themes.
