SUMMARY:Child Study Center Speaker Series
DESCRIPTION:\nKristina Olson\, Ph.D.\n\nProfessor of Psychology\n\nUnive
	rsity of Washington\n\nChildhood Gender Diversity: Latest Findings and C
	urrent Controversies\n\nAbstract:  Upon birth\, doctors\, midwives\, and
	 parents around the world declare\, &ldquo\;It&rsquo\;s a boy\,&rdquo\;
	or &ldquo\;It&rsquo\;s a girl.&rdquo\; Today\, more and more children ar
	e defying these declarations\, identifying as a gender that did not alig
	n with this pronouncement at their birth. Dr. Olson will present work ex
	ploring the gender development and well-being of this generation of tran
	sgender and gender-nonconforming children\, suggesting ways in which the
	ir lives are both remarkably unique and surprisingly similar to their mo
	re gender-conforming peers. She will address questions about the continu
	ity and discontinuity of identity\, examine researcher biases in assessi
	ng gender\, and discuss the implications of social support and transitio
	ning on well-being in transgender and gender-diverse youth.\n\nFor more
