SUMMARY:Center for Democratic Deliberation Lecture: Ismael Quiñones
DESCRIPTION:\nIsmael Qui&ntilde\;ones&nbsp\;presents &ldquo\;Life After
Rhetoric: Unrealism in Colonial Times&rdquo\;\n\nThe talk is a meditatio
n on the possibilities of augmenting pluriversal futures. The politics o
f our current moment\, with the escalation of human induced climate chan
ge\, call for a reorientation in the ways we do rhetoric. Unrealism\, bo
th as a problem and a possibility\, is a response to the limits of colon
ial times we were born to live. By reflecting on my own story of migrati
on\, the histories of friars that narrate European invasion upon the lan
ds and waters of Originary nations\, and the traces of resilience from a
colonial archive\, my dissertation Undocumented Times: Rhetorics of a C
olonial Moment asks us to imagine beyond the confines of the politics of
	 intelligibility.\n\nIsmael Qui&ntilde\;ones is a doctoral candidate in
Communication Arts and Sciences. His work has been published in Quarterl
y Journal of Speech\, Philosophy &amp\; Rhetoric\, and Communication Edu
cation. He will graduate in summer 2023.\n\nFor more details: https://ev
