SUMMARY:Book Launch: Texas Style-Exclusion: Mexican Americans and the Legacy of
	Limited Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:\nMexican immigrants—the nation’s largest contemporary immig
rant group—are often viewed with suspicion and are accused of being depe
ndent on the government and refusing to integrate into American society
the “right way.” In Texas-Style Exclusion: Mexican Americans and the Leg
acy of Limited Opportunity\, sociologists Jennifer Van Hook (Penn State)
and James D. Bachmeier (Temple University) investigate such claims by c
omparing how American society has responded to different groups of immig
rants over time. Texas-Style Exclusion is an engaging examination of pol
icies and practices that have been glossed over and forgotten that promo
ted mobility and integration for certain immigrant groups and impeded th
em for others.\n\nThe book launch/discussion\, moderated by A.K. Sandova
l-Strausz\, is sponsored by the Social Science Research Institute\, the
Population Research Institute\, the Migration Diversity Initiative\, and
the Latino/a Studies Program. Advance registration is required whether
attending in person or virtually\; lunch will be provided for those atte
nding in person.\n\nFor more details: https://events.la.psu.edu/event/bo
