The field of instruc ted second language acquisition seeks to understand how language instruc tion can be improved for optimal second and foreign language learning. A s many language programs move beyond teaching just the language and towa rds developing inquiry into language and culture through the language—an d endeavor to do so in socially just ways—professional development oppor tunities help equip instructors with the knowledge and skills to integra te inclusivity and criticality into their practices and nurture such beh aviors in their students.
