	9\;s Foster Auditorium to kick off&nbsp\;Women&#39\;s Rights and the Pos
	t-Civil War World\, a workshop commemorating the centennial of women&#39
	\;s suffrage in the United States. Dr. Hunter&#39\;s talk will be follow
	ed Saturday\, September 21 by a workshop on the myriad women&#39\;s righ
	ts movements that emerged in the post-Civil War era\, fighting for a var
	iety of rights and equal treatment beyond merely the right to vote. Addi

	n\nDr. Hunter&#39\;s talk is titled\, &quot\;&#39\;Confronted by Both a 
	Woman Question and a Race Problem&#39\;: African American Women\, Slaver
	y\, and Post-Civil War Rights.&quot\;&nbsp\;A scholar specializing in la
	bor\, gender\, race\, and southern history\, she is&nbsp\;the Edwards&nb
	sp\;Professor of&nbsp\;American&nbsp\;History and&nbsp\;Professor of&nbs
	p\;African-American Studies at Princeton. Her scholarship has earned num
	erous accolades and awards.&nbsp\;Her most recent book\,&nbsp\;Bound in 
	Wedlock: Slave and Free Black Marriage in the Nineteenth Century&nbsp\;(
	2017) earned&nbsp\;the Stone Book Award from the Museum of African Ameri
	can History\, the Mary&nbsp\;Nickliss&nbsp\;Prize from the Organization 
	of American Historians\, the&nbsp\;Joan Kelly Memorial Prize&nbsp\;and t
	he&nbsp\;Littleton-Griswold Prize from the&nbsp\;American Historical&nbs
	p\;Association\, the&nbsp\;Willie Lee Rose Book Award from the Southern 
	Association of Women&rsquo\;s Historians\,&nbsp\;and the Deep South Book
	 Prize from the Frances S.&nbsp\;Sumersell&nbsp\;Center for the Study of
	 the South. It was also&nbsp\;a finalist for the Lincoln Prize\, awarded
	 by Gettysburg College and the Gilder Lehrman Institute.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\n
	\nDr. Hunter actively seeks to engage the broader public with her resear
	ch and scholarship. She&nbsp\;has engaged in public history projects as 
	a consultant for museum exhibitions and documentary films&nbsp\;and work
