A panel discussion exploring what ethical principles should guide policy and law in promoting public safety.
New York University Press recently released The Ethics of Policing: New Perspectives on Law Enforcement, the result of a conference hosted by the Rock Ethics Institute that featured leading scholars in Black studies, criminology, history, law, politics, and other fields. This panel uses that book as a starting point to explore what ethical principles should guide policy and law in promoting public safety, especially in light of concerns raised by protest movements like Black Lives Matter.
Panel:
- Gopal Balachandran, Assistant Professor of Clinical Law
- Eleanor Brown, Professor of Law and International Affairs and Senior Scientist in the Rock Ethics Institute
- Ben Jones, Assistant Director of the Rock Ethics Institute
- Megan Kurlychek, Professor of Sociology, Criminology, and Public Policy (moderator)
- Eduardo Mendieta, Professor of Philosophy
In accordance with Penn State policy, all individuals are required to wear face masks inside all campus buildings, regardless of their vaccination status.
