The introductory U.S. history survey is often students' first (and only) college-level history course. In this workshop, Coles will walk through the tools, methods, and projects that she has deployed to create a learning environment that students find engaging, accessible, and relevant.

Sasha Coles is an assistant teaching professor in the Departments of History and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her research explores the history of westward expansion, domestic labor, and religious expression in the United States in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At Penn State, she teaches the first and second half of the U.S. survey course as well as more advanced classes on women and gender, labor, and public history.
