Screens of Defiance: Ukrainian Film Series
Sniper: The White Raven

This film is a powerful Ukrainian war drama directed by Maryan Bushan. Inspired by a true story, it follows a pacifist teacher whose life is shattered by Russia’s invasion of Eastern Ukraine in 2014, forcing him to transform into one of Ukraine’s most skilled
snipers. Praised for its intense realism and slow-burn, character-driven storytelling, the film explores the moral dilemmas and psychological toll of war. Rather than glorifying combat, it offers a stark portrait of how ordinary people are pushed to confront violence, grief, and the struggle for survival in extraordinary circumstances.
