Exploring Classical Korean Sijo and Creative Writing Practice with Calligraphy
Penn State Institute for Korean Studies Presents: Young Choi

This two-hour workshop introduces college students to the art and tradition of sijo (시조), classical Korean poetry and calligraphy. Participants will learn about its historical context, structure, and aesthetic principles. The session will also include

practical exercises in composing original sijos, encouraging students to explore creativity, cultural expression, and literary appreciation. No prior experience in classical poetry and calligraphy is required.
