The Africana Research Center has reached a significant milestone of providing opportunities to study, produce research, and generate scholarly dialogue in Africana Studies for the past twenty-five years at Penn State! It is fitting therefore to mark the occasion with thoughtful reflection, acknowledging contributions, and renewing its commitment to fostering a sense of belonging in a culturally enriched learning community. The ARC will host alumni, postdoctoral fellows, and other special guests for a commemorative symposium that will recognize the vanguard of student activism that led to the ARC’s creation and celebrate its achievements of broadening the scope of Africana Studies.
Since 2001, the Africana Research Center has stimulated and sustained the development of relevant and appropriate initiatives at Penn State that foster diversity and an increased understanding and appreciation of the history, life, and culture of African diasporic peoples.
