R. S. Canagarajah is a development economist whose work focuses on inclusive growth, fiscal reform, trade, and climate resilience in emerging and developing economies. Over a career spanning more than three decades at the World Bank, he has led major policy initiatives across Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe, mobilizing over $100 million in global support and fostering partnerships with governments, UN agencies, and international donors.

Canagarajah earned his Ph.D. and M.Phil. in economics from the University of Cambridge. He has held teaching and research appointments at leading institutions including the University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick, Cornell University, and Georgetown University. His academic work bridges rigorous economic research with applied policy, emphasizing evidence-based solutions to development challenges.

A committed mentor, Canagarajah has guided numerous students and young professionals pursuing careers in international development. His research and professional practice reflect a sustained commitment to integrity, collaboration, and innovation in advancing equitable and sustainable economic growth.
