Non-academic Career Paths for Humanities Ph.D.s

Lindsey Chandler is an instructional technology specialist for the Office of Digital Pedagogies and Initiatives. Lindsey provides professional development support for residential faculty to integrate digital methods in both teaching and research. She draws upon ten-plus years of experience as a doctoral student, postdoctoral fellow, instructor, and content supervisor for Spanish courses in the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at Penn State. Before joining DPI, Lindsey graduated with a doctorate in Spanish and language science (2022) from Penn State. Her research examined the relationship between word structure and reading times in Spanish. More broadly, her work addressed how psycholinguistic research can be applied in the classroom. Lindsey also holds a master of arts degree in foreign languages (2017) from North Carolina State University and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and Spanish (2014) from Appalachian State University. Outside of academia, Lindsey is passionate about community support initiatives across the Appalachian region, spending time outdoors, the expressive arts, and is an active board member of the State College Young Professionals.
